Bodianus Hogfish

The Bodianus Hogfish, more commonly known as the Two-Spot Hogfish, is a small and attractively colored wrasse featuring a vibrant yellow to golden body with two distinctive dark spots — one near the pectoral fin and another at the base of the tail. This compact species reaches a maximum size of about 10 inches, making it one of the more practical hogfish for home aquariums.

In the wild, this species inhabits deeper reef slopes and rubble zones throughout the Western Pacific, typically at depths of 15 to 60 meters. It is often found in small groups near rocky outcrops where it forages for small crustaceans, worms, and other benthic invertebrates. Its preference for deeper water gives it a slightly more subdued personality compared to shallow-water wrasses.

In captivity, the Two-Spot Hogfish is a hardy and undemanding species that adapts well to aquarium life. It readily accepts frozen foods and pellets, and its peaceful temperament makes it compatible with a wide range of community fish. A 125-gallon tank with ample rockwork provides sufficient space for this active swimmer.
