Amphiprion perideraion
Family: Pomacentridae ยท Clownfish
Also known as: Pink Anemonefish, False Skunk-striped Anemonefish, Salmon Clownfish
The Pink Skunk Clownfish is a delicate and ethereally beautiful anemonefish found across a wide range in the Western Pacific and Indo-Pacific regions. Its body is a soft translucent pink to salmon color, adorned with a single bright white dorsal stripe that runs along the spine from snout to tail, and a distinctive thin white vertical bar just behind the eye. This combination of pastel pink coloration and clean white markings gives it an elegant, almost otherworldly appearance that distinguishes it from the bolder, more vibrantly colored clownfish species.
In the wild, the Pink Skunk Clownfish is most commonly associated with Magnificent Sea Anemones (Heteractis magnifica) and occasionally with other large anemone species. It inhabits reef slopes and lagoons, typically at depths between 3 and 20 meters, where it lives in small social groups of one dominant female, one breeding male, and several subordinate non-breeding males. The species is notably small and slender compared to many clownfish, with a maximum size of only four inches, and its gentle temperament makes it one of the least aggressive anemonefishes.
The Pink Skunk Clownfish is a wonderful aquarium fish for hobbyists seeking a peaceful, attractive clownfish for a community reef tank. It is hardy, easy to feed, and poses absolutely no threat to corals or invertebrates. Its gentle nature means it should be housed with equally peaceful tankmates, as it can be bullied by more assertive species. A host anemone greatly enhances the display and provides the Pink Skunk Clownfish with a sense of security, but it is not required for success in captivity.
The Pink Skunk Clownfish is an omnivore that readily accepts all prepared aquarium foods including marine pellets, flakes, frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. A varied diet including both meaty and plant-based components maintains health and coloration. Vitamin-enriched foods help support the immune system. Due to its small size, offer appropriately sized food portions two to three times daily.
The Pink Skunk Clownfish is one of the most peaceful clownfish species, making it ideal for community reef tanks with other gentle fish. Compatible with small gobies, cardinalfish, firefish, dartfish, and other non-aggressive species. Should not be kept with aggressive clownfish or large territorial fish that may bully it. Can be kept in small groups in larger tanks. Completely reef-safe with all corals and invertebrates.
Check CompatibilityThe Pink Skunk Clownfish breeds readily in captivity. Mated pairs spawn on flat surfaces near their host or chosen territory, producing clutches of 200-500 eggs. The male guards and aerates the eggs, which hatch in 8-10 days. Larvae require rotifers as first food, transitioning to baby brine shrimp after about one week. Captive-bred specimens are widely available.
